- Yamaha XSR900 gets heavy updates for 2022
- Sports new frame, bigger engine
- Unlikely to be launched in India
Yamaha has taken the wraps off the 2022 XSR900 for international markets. The motorcycle receives some major changes as part of the model year update.
To begin with, it gets a new aluminum frame that is more compact and lighter than the previous one and is said to offer more longitudinal, lateral and torsional rigidity. Moreover, the wheelbase is longer and the headstock lower for a sportier and more responsive steering character.
Adding to that, Yamaha has also tweaked the styling, going from a '70s inspired look to an 80s racer style. The tank has been redesigned and so has the rear section. Nevertheless, the LED lighting all around and drilled elements remain the same.
Underneath the new frame and refreshed bodywork, Yamaha has also plonked in a bigger 889cc engine in the 2022 XSR900 to replace the 846cc unit. It now offers 4bhp more with 117.3bhp. Even the braking system has been upgraded with Brembo radial master cylinder and an adjustable lever. Meanwhile, suspension at the front is handled by full-adjustable KYB gold anodised forks and an adjustable KYB monoshock at the rear that is hidden away for a clean look.
As for features, the 2022 Yamaha XSR900 boasts of a 3.5-inch TFT screen in place of the round LCD unit from the previous model. You also get four ride modes, lean angle sensitive traction control as well as slide and wheelie control. The 2022 Yamaha XSR900 is being offered in two colours- Legend Blue and Midnight Black and will go on sale in international markets by the end of this year. However, it is unlikely to be launched in India anytime soon.
