Yamaha launched the Zuma 125 for international markets a couple of weeks ago. The scooter has an interesting and unconventional design, making it a fascinating prospect especially in a time when the demand for adventure motorcycles is the highest ever. So here we tell you all about the new Yamaha Zuma 125.
Design
The Zuma 125 borrows its styling from adventure motorcycles and thus has a minimalist approach, dropping nearly all bodywork that would seem unnecessary. Up front is the asymmetrical headlamp that is fitted just below the recess that allows for the installation of the optional accessory rack. The Zuma also sports a high-set and sharply design front fender and at the rear, the Yamaha Zuma’s design looks relatively conventional and much like the Ray ZR 125 that is available in India.
Powertrain
Powering the Yamaha Zuma is a 125cc, single-cylinder, 4-valve engine that is liquid-cooled and comes with fuel-injection. While power figures have not yet been revealed officially, it gets a slightly revised bore and stroke and higher compression ratio, and comes mated to a V-Belt transmission.
Hardware
The Yamaha Zuma 125 rides on 12-inch wheels at both ends wrapped with chunky 120/70 rubber for the front and 130/70 rubber for the rear, both of which are of the heavy-duty dual-sport variety. The telescopic forks upfront offer 81mm of suspension travel while the twin shocks at the rear offer 78mm of travel. Meanwhile, stopping power comes from single discs at both ends.
Features
Offering good amounts of practicality is the large underseat storage compartment that can fit a full-face helmet. It also gets a USB charger in the front compartment and an LCD instrument cluster with a rugged look to it.
India launch expectation
All said and done, the Yamaha Zuma 125 will not make its way to India for two reasons. Firstly, it would be an expensive proposition given its off-road focused attire and then, India already has something similar in the form of the Ray ZR Street Rally.
