Bajaj’s first motorcycle launch for 2023 came in the form of the updated Pulsar NS160 and the Pulsar NS200. Now, both bikes feature a few mechanical tweaks for this year and come with a new price tag. While we have already listed the alternatives to the NS200 in the previous story, let’s take a look at all the options for the updated NS160.
Bajaj Pulsar N160
Priced at Rs. 1,22,982 (ex-showroom, Chennai), the Bajaj Pulsar N160 is an option in the same segment. It features a 164.82cc single-cylinder engine making 15.68bhp and a torque of 14.65Nm and comes mated to a five-speed gearbox. It gets a rather distinctive design compared to the other Pulsar models and has a mix of commuter and sporty cues. Along with that, the N160 also gets dual-channel ABS. And with Bajaj’s extensive after-sales service network, it’s easier to source spare parts for the N160.
TVS Apache RTR 160 4V
Another 160cc offering, and the Pulsar NS160’s arch-rival, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V had to be included on this list. It costs Rs. 1,23,020 (ex-showroom, Chennai) and comes loaded with nifty tech. TVS has powered the Apache 160 RTR 4V with a 159.7cc single-cylinder engine linked to a five-speed gearbox, producing 17.31bhp and 14.73Nm. Meanwhile, the feature front comprises LED illumination and a fully digital instrument console. The Apache also gets three ride modes (Urban, Sport, and Rain). It rides on telescopic front forks and a monoshock with braking hardware consisting of front and rear disc brakes with ABS.
Hero Xpulse 200 4V
The Hero Xpulse 200 4V has gained notable popularity in recent years. It costs Rs. 1,38,496 (ex-showroom, Chennai) and is preferred by many beginners for off-roading as well as commuting. It’s powered by a 199.6cc single-cylinder mill and develops 18.8bhp and 17.35Nm. Hero has equipped the Xpulse 200 4V with LED illumination, and a digital console with smartphone connectivity to access turn-by-turn navigation, SMS, and call alerts. Moreover, the Xpulse 200’s ergonomics are quite comfortable as you sit upright with the handlebar easily accessible. The engine is refined and the ground clearance too is more than enough.
Bajaj Pulsar N250
If you are inclined toward the Pulsar brand, then the N250 is also worth consideration. It costs Rs. 1,41,178 (ex-showroom, Chennai) and sits above the NS160. The Pulsar N250 gets a larger 249cc motor dishing out 24.1bhp and 21.5Nm. Moreover, the N250’s aggressive styling is quite enticing too. The quarter-litre motor is refined and offers a good mix of performance with decent fuel efficiency. Bajaj has equipped the N250 with telescopic front forks, a monoshock, and front and rear disc brakes with ABS. It gets an LED headlight and a USB charging port for added convenience. Not to mention, Bajaj’s spare parts are also quite affordable, thus giving the owner peace of mind.
Yamaha Aerox 155
The last alternative to the Pulsar NS160 on this list is the Yamaha Aerox with an asking price of Rs. 1,43,539 (ex-showroom, Chennai). The Aerox 155 has become well-known since its launch a little while back. It gets the same engine as the R15 – a 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled motor dishing out 14.79bhp and 13.9Nm. The Aerox 155 is one of the few thorough maxi-scooters on sale in India. It features LED illumination, youthful styling, and smartphone connectivity too.
