This variant of the 400cc range rides on 17-inch alloy wheels on both ends. For the international markets, these are shod in Metzeler-sourced, 110/70-section front and 150/60-section rear Sportec M9RR tubeless tyres. Meanwhile, the classic Triumph engine profile with a triangle badge, finned cylinder head, and exhaust header clamps further enhance the styling of this motorcycle. The new Triumph Speed 400 is powered by a 398.15cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with a dual-overhead camshaft and four valves. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, this motor is tuned to deliver a maximum output of 39.5bhp at 8,000rpm and a peak torque of 37.5Nm at 6,500rpm. The gearbox benefits from a slipper and assist clutch mechanism. Notably, Triumph Motorcycles has announced a class-leading 16,000km service interval for both, the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400x.

The instrument cluster comprises a large analogue speedometer and an LCD screen that displays a tachometer, a fuel range remaining, and a gear indicator. The new Triumph Speed 400 is built around a hybrid spine/perimeter, tubular steel that comes with a bolted rear subframe, and twin-sided cast aluminium swingarm. Further, the suspension duties are handled by 43mm upside-down big piston front forks and a preload-adjustable gas-charger rear mono-shock. The anchoring setup includes a 300mm single disc with a four-piston radial calliper at the front and a 230mm single rotor with a two-piston fixed calliper at the back.
