Triumph Motorcycles has launched its most affordable motorcycle in the Indian market, the Speed 400. This new product from the British company will be sold alongside the Scrambler 400 X. The new Triumph Speed 400 boasts a neo-retro design that draws styling cues from bigger-displacement Triumph products such as the Speed Twin. Thus, the design includes a round headlight, a semi-digital instrument cluster, a curvy fuel tank with knee recesses, a step-up seat, and a side-slung exhaust. The classic Triumph engine profile with a triangle badge, finned cylinder head, and exhaust header clamps further enhance the styling. Then, this road-biased variant of the Triumph 400cc range rides on 17-inch alloy wheels on both ends. The colour palette, similar to the international market, comprises three options – Carnival Red with Phantom Black, Caspian Blue with Storm Grey, and Phantom Black with Storm Grey.

The feature list on the 2023 Triumph Speed 400 includes full-LED lighting, a semi-digital instrument cluster, ride-by-wire throttle, a switchable traction control system, dual-channel ABS, and an anti-theft immobiliser as standard. Notably, unlike the Scrambler 400 X, the dual-channel ABS on the Speed 400 is non-switchable. Meanwhile, the instrument cluster comprises a large analogue speedometer and an LCD screen that displays a tachometer, fuel range remaining, and a gear indicator. Further, the company will offer as many as 25 optional accessories for this product.
What are the engine specifications of the 2023 Triumph Speed 400?
The new Triumph Speed 400 shares its 398.15cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with the Scrambler 400 X. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, this motor delivers a maximum output of 39.5bhp at 8,000rpm and a peak torque of 37.5Nm at 6,500rpm. The gearbox benefits from a slipper and assist clutch mechanism. Notably, Triumph Motorcycles has announced a 16,000km service interval for both, the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400 X.
What hardware does the 2023 Triumph Speed 400 use?
The new Triumph Speed 400 uses a hybrid spine/perimeter, tubular steel that comes with a bolted rear subframe, and a twin-sided cast aluminium swingarm. The suspension duties are handled by 43mm, upside-down, big piston front forks and a preload-adjustable, gas-charged, rear mono-shock. The braking setup comprises a 300mm single disc with a four-piston radial calliper at the front and a 230mm single rotor with a two-piston fixed calliper at the back. This motorcycle tips the weighing scale at 176kg (kerb).
What are the prices of the 2023 Triumph Speed 400?
The new Triumph Speed 400 has been priced at Rs. 2.33. Notably, the first 10,000 customers will get an ex-showroom price of Rs. 2.23 lakh. In comparison, its closest rival in the Indian market, the Harley-Davidson X440, is available between Rs. 2.29 lakh and Rs. 2.69 lakh.
