Yamaha recently unveiled the 2023 ‘Fazer’ FZ-15 for the Brazilian market, updating it with a few mechanical and cosmetic features. We expect Yamaha to bring a similarly-specced version to India by the end of this year or early 2023. So, here we tell you all that you need to know about the new FZ-15.
New styling
The biggest change to the 2023 FZ-15 is its fascia. It now sports a headlamp setup that is similar to the FZ-25 sold in India. The radical-looking headlamp design gets full-LED lighting, including LED DRLs and an LED projector. But the rest of the design remains the same as the FZ V3 we have here. It gets faux air vents on the muscular fuel tank, a single-piece seat and a short exhaust canister. Yamaha is offering the FZ-15 in Brazil in a choice of three simple colours- blue, red and black.
Updated engine
Now, the Brazilian spec FZ uses a 149cc, single-cylinder engine like the FZ V3 in India. However, for 2023, Yamaha has made a significant change to the motor which can now run on ethanol as well as petrol. This engine is capable of producing 12.2bhp in petrol mode and 12.4bhp in ethanol mode; both at 7500rpm instead of the previous 7250rpm. On the other hand, the torque figures have gone down from 13.3Nm to 12.7Nm. In comparison, the Indian-spec Yamaha FZ V3 churns out 12.4bhp and 13.3Nm.
A new set of tyres
Apart from the updated engine, Yamaha has also fitted the 2023 FZ-15 with a new pair of rubber. The motorcycle now gets premium Pirelli Diablo Rosso 2 tyres as standard- 100-section at the front and 140-section at the rear that is wrapped in 17-inch wheels.
India launch timeline
While Yamaha has unveiled the 2023 FZ-15 or Fazer FZ-15, as it calls the motorcycle in Brazil, there is no confirmation about when it will be launched in India. However, we can expect the manufacturer to introduce the motorcycle in its V4 avatar sometime by 2023. It will continue to compete with the Suzuki Gixxer, TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and Bajaj Pulsar N160.
