Yamaha recently updated its entire portfolio with a few features and mechanical tweaks for 2023. And we even rode the 2023 FZ-X recently in Rajasthan. Here’s its review through these detailed images.
On the cosmetic front, the FZ-X has retained a majority of the design that the 2022 model features. From the round LED headlight, to the XSR-inspired styling cues and the overall structure, all of it has been carried over. But Yamaha now offers the bike in a new paint scheme of navy blue with golden wheels. This combination makes for a good contrasting setup and enhances the overall appearance.
Even the 149cc single-cylinder motor remains unaltered and continues to dish out 12.2bhp and 13.3Nm. The output is the same as before but the bike now complies with OBD2 norms and gets an onboard OBD sensor to monitor real-time emissions. It’s mated to a five-speed gearbox and the overall feedback is quite smooth and refined.
The motor has decent mid-range performance andcruiseseat 60-70kmph with ease. But post that, it feels stressed and you can feel vibrations around the handlebar and the footpegs.
Even the top speed that we could clock was around 105kmph which feels a little less for a 150cc bike. Overtaking a vehicle or two ahead of you will need a downshift to build up the momentum.
The overall comfort levels are also quite decent as the FZ-X gets a decently wide seat with a good cushion. The rider triangle is upright with the handlebar placed towards the rider and the footpeg at the center.
Pairing the above bits with the suspension translates to a stress-free experience, making the FZ-X a good commuter option. And now with the traction control, the safety net has also been enhanced.
Overall, the 2023 FZ-X is the same bike as before but with small updates. It costs Rs 1.37 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) which is Rs 1,000 more than before. So, if you are out for a comfortable commuter then the FZ-X makes for a sensible purchase, or else there are other options like FZ S and even the FZ25.
