The 2023 Yamaha MT-15 was launched in the Indian market with new features and an updated colour palette. Previously, we brought you the launch details of this roadster-segment motorcycle along with its pricing and competition. Here we explain the top details of the 2023 iteration of the vehicle.
2023 Yamaha MT-15: Features
The biggest upgrade on the 2023 Yamaha MT-15 is the addition of a traction control system. Previously, this feature was available on the MT-15’s fully-faired sibling, the YZF-R15. This new safety function is now accompanied by a dual-channel ABS tech. In comparison, the previous iteration of the MT-15 used a single-channel ABS. Further, Yamaha Motor India has also added LED turn indicators to this motorcycle, and the MT-15 now comes with full-LED lighting.
The cockpit retains a Bluetooth-enabled LCD instrument cluster. The Bluetooth connectivity brings features such as incoming call alerts, SMS and email notifications, and phone battery level to the LCD console. Further, the smartphone application helps track fuel consumption, provides maintenance recommendations, saves the last parked location, and shows malfunction notifications.
2023 Yamaha MT-15: Colours and Styling
Apart from updating the feature list, Yamaha Motor India has also revised the colour palette for this YZF-15-based roadster. The Indian arm of the Japanese manufacturer has added the new Metallic Black DLX colour to the list. This new paint option will be sold alongside the Ice Fluo-Vermillion, Racing Blue, and Cyan Storm colour themes. All colour options come with a different shade for the alloy wheels. Meanwhile, the design remains similar to the previous version, and the 2023 Yamaha MT-15 continues to feature a single-pod projector headlight with twin LED DRLs, a muscular fuel tank with bolted shrouds, a step-up seat, and a side-slung exhaust.
2023 Yamaha MT-15: Engine and Performance
The mechanical specifications remain unaltered. However, the 2023 model comes equipped with an onboard diagnostics (OBD-II) system that monitors the emission levels in real time. Meanwhile, the 2023 Yamaha MT-15 continues to use the same 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, SOHC, four-valve, fuel-injected engine with a VVA system that makes a maximum output of 18.1bhp at 10,000rpm and a peak torque of 14.2Nm at 7,500rpm. The six-speed gearbox benefits from an assist and slipper clutch mechanism. But, unlike the YZF-R15, this motorcycle does not get a quick-shifter.
2023 Yamaha MT-15: Hardware
Similar to its design, the hardware on 2023 MT-15 remains unchanged. This roadster-segment motorcycle is built around a deltabox frame and uses 37mm upside-down front forks and a rear mono-shock to handle the suspension tasks. The braking setup comprises a 282mm front disc and a 220mm rear rotor, while the safety net includes a dual-channel ABS and traction control system. Similar to the YZF-R15, the 17-inch alloy wheels on the MT-15 are wrapped in 100/80-section front and 140/70-section rear tyres. The motorcycle features a 10-litre fuel tank and tips the weighing scale at 141 kg (kerb).
2023 Yamaha MT-15: Price and Competition
The 2023 Yamaha MT-15 has been priced at Rs 1,68,400 (ex-showroom, Delhi). It rivals the likes of the KTM 125 Duke, TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, Honda Hornet 2.0, and Bajaj Pulsar N250 in the Indian market.
