Yamaha is finally set to launch the YZF-R3 in India after taking the motorcycle off the shelves a few years ago. The motorcycle will be introduced in the country on 15 December. So before the R3 arrives, let us tell you what to expect from the supersport.
Expected pricing
The Yamaha R3 was on sale in India back in 2019 and was priced at Rs 3.51 lakh then. It was an expensive proposition then and also one of the major reasons for its low sales volume. However, the new R3 that will be launched in India has received updates over the years in global markets, warranting for a price hike. Furthermore, since the motorcycle will be brought in as a CBU so we can expect it to be priced between Rs 3.5-3.7 lakh, ex-showroom.
Bookings for the motorcycle have already commenced and the deliveries are likely to begin at the start of 2024.
Styling
The new R3 has taken the design approach of its bigger siblings and is more aerodynamic than the version available in India earlier. It isn’t as aggressive as say the R15 or the soon-to-be launched R7 but comes with a full-fairing and split LED headlamps. These feature an air-intake in between. To keep the motorcycle sporty, the R3 comes with a split seat setup and a sharp tail section to complete the look.
Features
The feature list on the R3 includes a dual-channel ABS, full-LED lighting and an LCD instrument cluster. It also comes with a slipper and assist clutch as standard and uses golden upside down forks as standard. However, these features fall short before its rivals- the Kawasaki Ninja 400 and the KTM RC 390. Considering this, the Yamaha R3 should be priced competitively.
Engine and cycle parts
Now, the Yamaha R3’s engine hasn’t changed much since 2019. It uses a 321cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine that churns out 40.4bhp and 29.4Nm and comes mated to a six-speed gearbox. As for hardware, the motorcycle rides on upside down forks up front, a monoshock and discs at both ends with ABS.
