Bajaj Auto revamped its electric scooter portfolio with the launch of the 2024 Chetak in the Urbane and Premium trims. The latter debuted recently and we have stacked it against the Ather 450X Gen 3 with the Pro Pack. Here is what the two offer.
Design
There is a stark contrast between the two electric scooters on the design front. The Bajaj Chetak Premium is a thoroughly old-school-looking scooter. It gets a round headlight, curvy body panels, and a rounded apron too. The new Chetak EV is reminiscent of the older petrol-powered model. On the other hand, the Ather 450X caters to a much younger audience with its sporty appearance and its bodywork is sharp and aerodynamic. Its fascia is pointed and the scooter’s silhouette, too, resonates the same.
Features
Considering both scooters are offered with their respective feature packs, the competition here is quite close. The Bajaj Chetak Premium is offered with the TecPac, which costs Rs. 9,000. With this, the scooter gets two ride modes – Eco and Sport – hill hold, smartphone connectivity, sequential blinkers, five-inch colour TFT, and turn-by-turn navigation as well.
Ather offers the 450X with the Pro Pack, which costs Rs. 23,078. It enables the full suite of features and gives you access to five riding modes (Smart Eco, Eco, Ride, Sport, and Warp), hill assist, Bluetooth compatibility, music and call display, auto-indicator off, navigation, guide-me-home lights, tyre pressure monitoring system, document storage, OTA (Over The Air) updates, and remote charge monitoring.
Overall, the Ather 450X offers more features than the Bajaj Chetak.
Hardware
The Chetak uses a front and rear monoshock and only gets a disc at the front end. It uses 12-inch wheels. On the contrary, Ather has equipped the 450X with telescopic front forks and a monoshock. Its brakes include a front and rear disc mounted on 12-inch wheels.
Motor and Battery
Bajaj has powered the Chetak Premium with a 3.2kWh battery, which gives it a maximum range of 127km, and the top speed is limited to 73kmph. Even the Chetak’s charging time is the same as the Ather scooter. Powering the Ather 450X is a 3.7kWh battery linked to a 6.2kW motor. The setup offers 90kmph of top speed and a 110km range. The charging time for the Ather 450X is four hours and 30 minutes.
Price
The asking price for the 2024 Bajaj Chetak Premium is Rs. 1,35,463, and Rs. 1,44,463 (both ex-showroom, Pune) with the TecPac. Meanwhile, the Ather 450X is priced at Rs. 1,44,921 in its standard trim and Rs. 1,67,999 (both ex-showroom, Bengaluru) with the Pro Pack.
This makes the Ather 450X about Rs. 14,000 more expensive than the Bajaj Chetak Premium. And for the said price difference, you get more features.
