Bajaj Auto has revised a bunch of its motorcycles recently and equipped them with new features and hardware. The Pulsar N160 too was updated in the list and it should now offer even better competition to the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V. So, let's fair the two on paper and see which of these 160cc bikes offers more value for money.
Design
Although Bajaj has retained the Pulsar N160’s design for 2024, it now gets a new paint scheme along with refreshed graphics. Moreover, the latter is applicable for the 2024 model only, even with the older colours. The Pulsar N160 looks muscular and gets a proper sporty commuter setup. Even the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V looks youthful and sharp. The plus point here is that the Apache RTR 160 shares its design with the bigger 200cc siblings.
Features
With the latest updates, the Bajaj Pulsar N160 now boasts a bunch of new bits. It sports a fully digital instrument console with smartphone connectivity to display calls and SMS, and gets turn-by-turn navigation too. Furthermore, the Pulsar N160 comes with three ride modes which letters the ABS setting – Road, Rain, and Off-road.
On the other hand, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V comes with ride modes and smartphone connectivity. But the latter is only available on the top-spec models. It's an even competition here as well.
Engine
Powering the Bajaj Pulsar N160 is the same 164.82cc, single-cylinder engine. It makes 15.68bhp at 8,750rpm and 14.65Nm at 6,750rpm. On the other hand, the Apache RTR 160 4V is powered by a 159.7cc, oil-cooled motor and it pumps out 17.31bhp with 14.73Nm. Both bikes get a five-speed gearbox.
The Apache makes more power and torque than the Pulsar N160 and scores an extra point here.
Hardware
Bajaj has updated the Pulsar N160 with USD front forks and a monoshock. It has 17-inch wheels, a disc brake at both ends and road-biased tyres. Meanwhile, the Apache still gets telescopic front forks and monoshock. Moreover, it too gets 17-inch wheels and road-biased tyres.
Price
The asking price for the 2024 Bajaj Pulsar N160 is set at Rs. 1,39,693 whereas the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V costs Rs. 1,24,870 for the base model and Rs. 1,38,670 (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi). Both bikes are priced quite close and have marginal differences only. But we feel the Bajaj Pulsar N160 makes for a better choice as it not only gets more features but a comparatively new design than the Apache.
