-Front suspension strut issue
-Front struts were not produced as per specifications
-Riding stability may be affected
BMW Motorrad has issued a recall for the 2024 R 1250 RT and the K 1600 GT as well as the K 1600 GTL in the US. The company says that there is a potential issue with the front suspension strut that could lead to an unstable motorcycle over a period of time. This could possibly cause loss of control and a crash.
The issue pertains to the Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA) strut that was supplied by one of BMW’s vendors. The valve in the damper may have been made from material of incorrect specifications. This could lead to the valve unscrewing itself over the course of time and might lead to insufficient or incorrect damping. That in turn would affect the stability of the bike at high speeds or while riding over bad road conditions.
BMW has identified the batch of front struts that are faulty and has instructed service centers to examine the affected bikes and carry out the necessary changes. Owners will be notified by the company and told when their bikes need to be brought in for the checks.
BMW added that while there have been no reports of any incidents caused by the faulty struts, it has issued this recall voluntarily.
As of now, BMW Motorrad India has not issued a recall for any of these bikes sold in India and we will update this story as and when we get word about any bikes being part of the issue.
