If you are in the market to buy a 300-400cc naked motorcycle, this is probably the best time. Because KTM and TVS have both launched their respective flagship streetfighter motorcycle in the country. Yes, we are talking about the 2024 KTM 390 Duke and the TVS Apache RTR 310. Let’s take a closer look at the design, features, and design of both bikes.
Design
Both motorcycles feature an attractive and sporty design language. However, the Apache RTR 310’s design seems to have been inspired by a few motorcycles. On the other hand, the new 390 Duke’s styling is an extension of the second-generation model. Both motorcycles feature a primary steel trellis frame and a composite cast aluminium subframe.
Features
Coming to the features, both motorcycles come loaded to the gills with equipment. The Apache RTR 310 gets segment-first features like cornering cruise control, climatic control seats, dynamic LED headlamps and taillights. However, most of the segment-first features are only available via the optional BTO program.
Apart from that, both motorcycles come equipped with features like a bidirectional quickshifter, traction control system, cornering ABS, riding modes, and a TFT instrument cluster. The 390 Duke additionally gets wheelie control and launch control.
Engine
The 2024 KTM 390 Duke uses a larger, more powerful 399cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 45.37bhp at 8,500rpm and a peak torque of 39Nm at 6,500rpm. The short-stroke motor is paired with a six-speed transmission and gets a slipper clutch. On the other hand, the TVS Apache RTR 310 is powered by a 312cc, liquid-cooled, four-valve engine that pumps out 35.08bhp at 9,700rpm and a peak torque of 28.7Nm at 6,650rpm. This unit is also coupled to a six-speed gearbox, while a slipper clutch is standard.
Cycle Parts
Both motorcycles run similar cycle parts like USD front suspension and a rear monoshock, 17-inch alloy wheels, disc brakes at both ends and dual-channel ABS. But this is where the similarities end. The 390 Duke features adjustable front and suspension as standard, whereas the RTR 310 gets it via the optional BTO kits. Further, while the 390 Duke gets Metzeler tyres, the RTR 310 features Michelin Road 5 tyres.
Price
Both motorcycles are priced competitively and in the same ballpark if you consider the top-end RTR 310. The KTM 390 Duke is available in a single trim and is priced at Rs. 3.10 lakh (ex-showroom). Meanwhile, the TVS Apache RTR 310 is available in four trims and is priced between Rs. 2.43 lakh to Rs. 2.64 lakh (ex-showroom). Further, it also gets the BTO kits, which are priced at Rs. 18,000 for the Dynamic kit and Rs. 22,000 for the Dynamic Pro kit. Then, the Sepang Blue paint scheme is available for Rs. 10,000 extra.
