- Gets an all-new bodywork
- Brakes, suspension, and tyres have been updated
- Engine remains unchanged
Yamaha has taken the wraps off the 2024 iteration of its much-hallowed, middle-weight street bike, the MT-09, for the international markets. The Japanese bike maker has overhauled the bike in terms of design, cycle parts, and features, while keeping the engine unchanged.
With the 2024 edition, Yamaha has taken an even more radical approach with the design of the motorcycle. Now, it looks like a bike straight out of a sci-fi movie. There’s a petite headlamp flanked by a pair of low-lying LED DRL strips. The fuel tank is angular and muscular while the tail section is quite stubby. The fresh clothing is complemented by a new five-inch colour TFT dash with smartphone connectivity and navigation. Other new features include three preset and two customisable riding modes, standard cruise control, and self-cancelling turn indicators.
All the other changes in the MT-09 are on the hardware front. The KYB front and rear suspension setup has been tweaked in terms of spring rate and damping while the new Brembo brakes have been altered to deliver better bite and lever feedback. Moreover, the bike rides on 17-inch spinforged aluminium wheels that come shod with new Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S23 tyres. The engine, meanwhile, continues to be the same 890cc, CP3, three-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces 117.3bhp at 10,000rpm and a peak torque of 93Nm at 7,000rpm.
Now, talking about the chances of the 2024 MT-09 coming to India, Yamaha’s top honcho has already confirmed that they’re considering bringing big bikes to our shores. However, the definite timeline for the same hasn’t been revealed yet. We believe the company will first launch the MT-07 followed by the introduction of the MT-09 sometime next year.
