The all-new Suzuki Access was recently launched at the Bharat Mobility Expo. The scooter features a new chassis, more features and a number of other changes over its predecessor. Here are its highlights.
Evolved design
The new Suzuki Access looks like an evolution of the previous scooter. The bodypanels have an edgy design, there are a lot of creases all around and, on the whole, the Suzuki Access looks more contemporary. The scooter also looks larger in size, especially when viewed from the side. Some of the design bits that stand out include the headlight, the sleeker turn indicators and the swooping lines on the side panels. There are five colours on offer: Metallic Mat Stellar Blue, Pearl Grace White, Metallic Mat Black No 2, Solid Ice Green, and Pearl Shiny Beige.
New chassis
Suzuki has developed a new frame for this scooter and it has 25 percent more rigidity than the previous frame. The new frame is suspended by a telescopic fork and monoshock, while the tyre sizes are still 12-inch at the front and 10-inch at the rear. We wish Suzuki would’ve offered a 12-inch rear wheel, as it does on the Burgman EX, for the sake of a proportionate design. Braking duties, meanwhile, are taken care of by a disc brake at the front and rear.
Improved engine
The Access is powered by a 124cc, single-cylinder, engine, which is OBD2-compliant. It develops 8.3bhp at 6,500rpm and 10.2Nm at 5,000rpm. While based on the outgoing scooter’s engine, Suzuki has made a number of changes to the internals, which have led to an improvement in fuel efficiency. Considering the slightly larger fuel tank, the range should also improve.
More features
The new Access has a longer list of features than its predecessor. The list includes a new hazard light switch, rear brake lock and Bluetooth enabled LCD instrument panel with more information, including on the Ride Connect App.
Price and competition
Prices of the Suzuki Access 125 begin at Rs 81,700. There are three variants on offer- Standard, Special Edition and Ride Connect.
