Yamaha has taken the wraps off the new 2025 version of the MT-07. This is the fourth generation model of the motorcycle and has received comprehensive updates in terms of chassis, engine, features, and styling.
The main highlight of the 2025 MT-07 is the inclusion of Yamaha’s new Y-AMT semi-automatic transmission system, just like the new MT-09. This system eliminates the clutch and gear shifter and includes up and down shift buttons on the left switchgear to manually shift gears while the bike is in manual mode. Meanwhile, there are two automatic modes wherein the system takes care of the gear-shifting process without the rider having to give any inputs.
For including the Y-AMT system, Yamaha had to incorporate ride-by-wire throttle which makes the MT-07 the first CP2-powered bike to get it. The company will continue to offer a manual transmission version of the motorcycle. Further, the bike has much more to offer on the electronics front with the introduction of switchable traction control, multiple riding modes, power levels, and cruise control. The manual trim also gets an assist and slipper clutch.
Similar to the MT-09, the new MT-07 gets a revised airbox, new intake funnels, and ports on top of the fuel tank to channel the intake noises directly to the rider to deliver a sweeter aural experience. While the CP2, 698cc, 72.4bhp has remained unchanged, it is held on by a more rigid tubular chassis, lighter spinforged wheels, and a new bodywork which, again, is marginally lighter than before. As a result, the new MT-07 weighs a measly 1 kilo less than before and tips the scales at 183kg (dry).
Other changes to the bike include the replacement of conventional forks with 41mm upside-down units. The riding position offered by the bike has also been revised by lowering the seat height to 805mm, widening the handlebar and bringing it closer to the rider, and moving the footpegs 10mm lower. Not to forget, the braking hardware has also been improved with the incorporation of a pair of four-piston radial calipers at the front.
The 2025 Yamaha MT-07 will hit the dealerships in the international markets soon. Considering Yamaha’s focus shifting towards the premium segment in India, the chances of the brand bringing the MT-07 to India are quite high.
