Honda Gold Wing goes high-tech with duolever suspension and automatic gearbox

The fifth-generation Honda Gold Wing has been around for 15 years. In comparison to other motorcycles it is a significantly long time run for one generation. Honda’s flagship machine will finally be replaced in 2017 and as the date gets closer more details will unfold. Here are pictures and details of the duolever suspension and the DCT gearbox.

Honda’s Gold Wing has just had a set of patents filed for these new changes. Along with the DCT (Dual Clutch semi-auto Transmission), the bike is also getting a ride-by-wire throttle and riding modes that will make it more efficient in touring mode to increase the fuel economy.

Honda has also filed a patent for the duolever-style front-end clearly earmarked for a Gold Wing. The official Honda patent for that looks largely similar to the duolever front end of the BMW K1600. The motorcycle is expected to come with a more intuitive set of rider-friendly electronics that are likely to be centred on a new TFT-screen console.

Mid-corner ABS is also expected for the new Gold Wing as an extension of the current C-ABS linked braking system used by Honda. Honda has already fitted its DCT system to its new Africa Twin and VFR1200F. The technology has been tested and though is proven to work well, it can add up to 10kg in weight on a motorcycle.
Once introduced, the next generation Honda Gold Wing is expected to be priced slightly higher than the outgoing model.
