Ever since its launch, the India-made Harley-Davidson Street 500 seems to be a top seller for the cruiser motorcycle manufacturer in Australia. The XG500 (Street 500) has taken the third spot in the top 10 highest selling road motorcycles in the country.
According to figures released today by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries, the company has managed to move 1175 units of the motorcycle in the first nine months of 2016. The motorcycle lost second place to the Yamaha YZF-R3 by just 21 units in the overall charts. Honda took the top spot with its NCB110 at 1824 units. A big reason for these high numbers is that all three motorcycles only require learner licenses.
Biggest sellers for Harley were again the India-made Street 500 and the Softail Breakout which took eighth in the overall charts. These two motorcycles have played a big part in helping the manufacturer taking top spot in the standings. With 7,202 unit sales it was followed by Honda who sold 6670 units, despite having the top-selling bike in the country. Yamaha took third at 5822 units.
Harley-Davidson India does not offer the 500cc Street option, but one can get the 750cc Street in India for Rs 4.7 lakh (Ex-showroom Mumbai).
