It was Bajaj first who decided to launch to the Dominar to take on the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and now, Honda plans to develop a new middle-weight cruiser that will compete with one of the Royal Enfield bikes.
This development comes straight from Japan. Noriaki Abe, president & CEO, Asian Honda Motor Co Ltd talked about this big development. He will take over as CEO of Honda’s global motorcycle business from April 1. The Japanese manufacturer has formed a team of engineers from Japan and Thailand that will be mainly responsible for the development of this bike which will take place at their Indian R&D centre.
The lack of a good competitor and the huge growth in the segment made Honda take this decision. While the company didn’t really say more about the product, we believe Honda would develop something that will help it take on the Classic 350 as it gets the maximum sales for Royal Enfield. Honda is known for its quality and refinement, which Royal Enfield lacks in a big way. We believe Honda would definitely use these aspects in its advantage and develop a cruiser that would entice the Indian buyers.
We contacted Honda India to check regarding this development. However, the Indian arm is yet to be updated regarding this upcoming product which basically means, the upcoming Honda cruiser is still in very early stage of developments.
