Ducati Monster 797 and Multistrada 950 - what to expect

Ducati will introduce two new entry-level motorcycles, the Monster 797 and the Multistrada 950, in India tomorrow. The upcoming Ducati Monster 797 will join the 821, 1200, 1200 S and 1200 R, while the Multistrada 950 will add to the Multistrada 1200, Multistrada 1200 S, and the Multistrada 1200 Enduro.

The new Ducati Monster 797 will be powered by an 803cc air-cooled L-twin engine that generates 74bhp of power at 8,250 rpm and 69Nm of torque at 5,750 rpm. To put things into perspective, the upcoming motorcycle will be considerably slower than its current sibling that is powered by the liquid-cooled 821cc engine that produces 110bhp of power at 9,250Nm and 89Nm of torque at 7,750rpm. The Multistrada 950 will be powered by a 937cc liquid-cooled twin-cylinder engine that generates 111bhp of power at 9,000rpm and 96Nm of torque at 7,750rpm. The bigger Multistrada is powered by 1,198cc engine that generates 159bhp of power at 9,500rpm and 136Nm of torque at 7,500rpm. Both the bikes will come mated to a six-speed transmission, while the Multistrada 950 will additionally get four riding modes - Sport, Touring, Urban and Enduro. Additionally, both the bikes will get ABS as standard, while the Multistrada 950 will also get DTC or Ducati Traction Control system.

Apart from a new engine, the Monster 797 retains most of its design elements from the regular Monster 821 as it continues to be offered with a trellis frame, wide handlebars, double-sided swingarm and LED headlamps. The Monster 797 should be available in three colour combinations - white with red frame and wheels, the classic Ducati red with black frame and wheels, and ‘dark stealth’ with black frame and wheels. The Multistrada 950 combines the design elements from the Multistrada 1200 and the Multistrada 1200 Enduro. The headlight, tank and adjustable screen has been carried forward from the Multistrada 1200, while the seat, grab rail, wheel size and exhaust is taken from the Multistrada 1200 Enduro. The newest Multistrada should be available in two colour options – Ducati red and white. Both the colours will be available with matt grey frame and wheels.

The Ducati Monster 797 and the Multistrada 950 will be introduced in the country via the CBU route. Ahead of its official launch in the country tomorrow, we believe that the Monster 797 might be priced around Rs 8 lakh, while the Multistrada 950 might be priced around Rs 12 lakh. Both the bikes are likely to find potential buyers who have been looking forward to upgrade from the 500cc segment, while also being affordable at the same time.
