For the last couple of years, Yamaha has been testing a 125cc scooter in India, which has been photographed around Chennai. The recently spotted test mule was not camouflaged, making it easy to guess that it’s a lot like the Nozza Grande sold in the Vietnamese market.
The external appearance of the scooter shows its shape to be similar to the Fascino, already on sale in India. This is because of the free flow design concept followed by both the Fascino and the Nozza Grande. The Nozza Grande's suspension system includes a front telescopic fork and a rear spring loaded system. The braking power comes from a disc brake in the front and a drum brake at the rear. The noteworthy features include a DRL, semi-digital instrument cluster, front fuel cap, large under-seat storage with light, LED tail lamps etc.
Well, globally the Yamaha Nozza Grande comes powered by a 125cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine featuring a fuel-injection system. However, it might get the carburettor in India to make it cost effective. We can expect it to churn out 8bhp of power and 9.5Nm of torque and come mated to a CVT gearbox.
Yamaha is tight-lipped about the developments of this project. While the manufacturer is notoriously secretive, the company had earlier revealed that they plan to focus on the scooter market. So it won't be a surprise if Yamaha launches this 125cc scooter soon. This will be the brand's first 125cc scooter joining the 113cc Fascino, Alpha and Ray series of scooters in India. Upon launch, it will go up against the Suzuki Access 125, Honda Activa 125, Vespa VX125 and the upcoming Aprilia SZR125.
