The Himalayan 650 is finally turning into a reality. However, it will take over two years for this motorcycle to hit the Indian market. But from a recent spy shot, we managed to notice three important things on the motorcycle.
Firstly, the Himalayan 650 test mule was spotted with a fully adjustable USD suspension at the front. This makes the Himalayan 650 to be the first Royal Enfield bike to get full adjustability. The bike is likely to get adjustments for preload, compression as well as rebound.
The second thing that is quite noticeable is the presence of dual brake discs at the front. This is the first time the brand is trying something like that. But usually, such braking setup is seen on super sport bikes that are meant to go fast. However, the 650cc platform is quite a heavy one, and there’s a high chance that Royal Enfield is looking to improve the braking performance by adding a disc and a caliper. This also makes us believe that the Himalayan 650 is most likely going to become a sports tourer, rather than an adventure bike. For roads, especially in the Europe and US where the average speeds are much higher, a good brake setup will make a lot of difference. Also, the spotted bike is a prototype, and usually, brands try various combinations to figure out the perfect setup. So the dual discs might not make it into production.
The third and final big thing we can see on the bike is the single-sided upswept exhaust –a cycle part that is also seen on the scrambler based on the Interceptor 650. This has been done to drop the overall weight, and also give it a proper ADV look. A few more bits on the bikes look production-ready, but the bike is still two years away.
