It’s been almost a month since we spotted the KTM RC 125 being tested on the Indian roads. A close look at our website statistics reveal that there’s been quite a buzz around this particular KTM, a bike that has been in production in India for many years, but never launched. In this story, we give you three reasons why we think the RC 125 will be launched in India soon.
1: Make it more accessible
KTM’s most affordable fully-faired motorcycle is the RC 200. But it’s quite pricey at Rs 1.78 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The brand’s target audience in the country is the younger generation, and a lot of them are either in college or just about to start their corporate life. So they need something affordable that won’t burn a hole in their pockets. So yes, there’s a huge market here, and with the RC 125, KTM wants to plug this budget gap.
2: KTM 125 Duke connection
The 125 Duke was launched a few months ago, and it worked well for the brand. KTM got a lot of new buyers as well people who were looking to upgrade from entry-level motorcycles. So it’s obvious that the Austrian brand would want to replicate the same success with its fully-faired sibling. Plus, both the bikes are assembled in the same assembly plant. So logistically, it is not much of a hassle for the company.
3: Yamaha YZF-R15 has made everyone greedy
Currently, the YZF-R15 is the only bike in the 125-150cc full-faired segment. As a result, it’s bringing in some really good sales for the company. In fact, the R15 V 3.0 had reached a sales figure of 15,000 units a month last year. KTM definitely wants a piece of this segment, and a big one at that. So expect this battle to get fiercer in the next few months.
