It's almost official - Thailand will host an additional round for the 2018 MotoGP championship. We've written before that Thailand is scheduled to host a MotoGP race soon, and on 31 August, an official agreement will be signed inducting the Buriram circuit as a new round. Sakon Wannapong, the Governor of Sport Authority of Thailand, and Carmelo Ezpeleta, Dorna Sports CEO, will sign the contract.
The ceremony will also have his excellency General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, and Pongpanu Svetarundra, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, in attendance. The contract will be for three years: 2018 through to 2020. The circuit already hosts a World Superbike Championship round, and the annual Phillip Island MotoGP test might also move to the Thai circuit in the month of February. The delay in inducting Thailand to the MotoGP circus was reportedly due to the clash between Singha Beer, which sponsors the MotoGP series, and Chang Beer, who owns the Buriram circuit.
