Suzuki Intruder vs Bajaj Avenger 150 Street Competition Check

Suzuki has launched the Intruder at Rs 98,340 (ex-showroom, India) . The premium commuter derives its styling from the bigger Intruder M1800, a legendary power cruiser. As a 150cc cruiser, it competes directly against the Bajaj Avenger 150 Street. We look at how these premium commuter bikes fare against each other.

Design and Features

The Suzuki Intruder scores high on street presence. The low-slung looks, muscular fuel tank, twin outlet exhaust and the trademark triangular Intruder headlamp make it stand out in the crowd. Braking duties are done by a 266mm disc up front and a 260mm disc at the rear with single-channel ABS as standard. The bike gets an 11-litre fuel tank and a kerb weight of 148kg.

The Bajaj Avenger Street 150 is the bestselling motorcycle in the Avenger series. The styling is similar to the first Avenger, (not Captain America), although the manufacturer has replaced chrome with matte black paint to make the bike appealing to younger buyers.  Unlike the Intruder, the Avenger uses a 240mm disc up front and a drum setup at the rear. While the bike weighs the same as the Intruder at 148kg, the Avenger 150 Street gets a bigger fuel tank capacity of 14-litres.

While the braking power is superior on the Intruder with the rear disc and ABS, the Avenger 150 Street will require fewer fuel stops thanks to its bigger fuel tank. Also, while the Intruder gets a fully digital instrument display with a gear shift indicator and clock, the Avenger 150 Street sports an old-school analogue speedometer with a small digital display.

Engine

The Bajaj Avenger 150 Street uses a 150cc single-cylinder DTS-i engine that puts out 14bhp at 9000rpm and 12.5Nm of torque at 6500rpm. This unit is mated to a five-speed transmission.

The Intruder is powered by the same 155cc engine used in the Gixxer. Thanks to the extra displacement the Intruder has an edge over the Avenger 150 when it comes to the power output. This air-cooled single-cylinder engine produces 14bhp at 8000rpm and 14Nm of torque at 6000rpm and is mated to a five-speed transmission.

Pricing

Bajaj is known for its competitive pricing, and it is no different with the Avenger 150 Street. The Rs 80,435 price tag makes it relatively more affordable than the Intruder, which retails at Rs 98,340 (ex-showroom, India). The Intruder justifies this higher price tag with premium touches and better features. Besides, it is also based on the Gixxer, which in itself is a relatively expensive motorcycle.
