Brembo has issued a massive recall to address an issue with the front brake master cylinder. The affected brake model in question is the PR16 radial master cylinder unit, which is commonly used along with the M50 Monobloc calipers.
For now, the company has only recalled Aprilia motorcycles, although several other major manufacturers are expected to join the list soon. The piston has been identified as the faulty component in the PR16 master cylinder. The piston can crack and eventually lead to a failure of the front brake. The issue is a result of a shortcoming in the plastic quality. Under the recall, Brembo will replace the plastic pistons with the ones made from aluminium.
For now, Brembo has recalled 1,800 examples of the 2016-2017 Aprilia RSV4 and 2017 Tuono models in the US. Considering that several manufacturers use the Brembo PR16 caliper, we can expect to see a bunch of performance bikes being recalled over the next few weeks.
