After introducing two new 250cc bikes in India, Yamaha has shifted its focus to developing a bigger motorcycle, possibly a 300cc-400cc motorcycle.
According to a, this new motorcycle will be based on a new platform and has been internally codenamed 02R. This motorcycle is currently under development and is expected to hit the market by 2020, the same time BS-VI emission norm kicks in.
Interestingly, the same report claims that the Japanese manufacturer is also working on another 250cc bike which might be called the FZ250. Its internal codename is 03A and is expected to be launched by March next year.
Looks like Yamaha has decided to focus more on premium offerings rather than battling out with Hero and Honda in the mass market segments. While the commuter space brings volumes, it also demands a lot of investment and time. Yamaha is known for its premium and performance offerings globally and it makes sense for its Indian arm to position it the same way in one of the fastest growing two-wheeler markets in the world.
