Hero Xtreme 200R vs Apache RTR 200 4V: Spec Comparison

Hero Motocorp unveiled the Xtreme 200R, the production version of the Xtreme 200S concept. The premium commuter goes head on against the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V. Let’s see how the Xtreme 200R fares against its biggest rival.

Design and features

Hero Motocorp has kept the design of the production bike exactly the same as the concept it displayed back in 2016. It sports a sharp tail section, muscular tank and edgy tank shrouds and alloy wheels that lend a sporty appeal to the bike. It also gets LED units above its headlamp along with an LED tail lamp unit. The Apache RTR 200 4V also gets a sharp design language and LED lighting for the headlamp and tail light. However, the split seat and uniquely designed dual-outlet exhaust give the Apache an extra edge of sportiness.

The Hero Xtreme 200R sports an analogue tachometer with a digital unit that displays speed, fuel gauge, odometer, trip meter and clock. On the other hand, TVS have thrown all they could in the Apache RTR 200 4V’s fully-digital instrument console. Apart from the usual functions, it integrates a gear indicator, shift light, clock, top-speed recorder, 0-60kmph time recorder, lap time recorder and a service reminder.

Both bikes come equipped with a monoshock at the rear and conventional forks upfront. While the Xtreme 200R gets a single-channel ABS as option, the Apache sports a dual-channel ABS with Rear wheel lift-off protection (RLP) system.

Engine

Powering the Xtreme 200R is a 200cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine develops 18.3bhp and 17.1Nm of torque, housed in a diamond frame.

The Apache RTR 200 4V uses a double cradle chassis that houses a 198cc oil-cooled single-cylinder engine. This engine is available with the option of either a carburettor or a fuel-injection system. While the former produces 20.2bhp and a peak torque of 18.1Nm, the fuel injected engine produces 0.5bhp extra.

The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V delivers a fuel-efficiency of around 37kmpl. Meanwhile, Hero Motocorp claims that the Xtreme 200R will return an efficiency of 40kmpl.

Pricing

Hero Motocorp has not revealed the pricing of the Xtreme 200R yet; however we expect the bike to retail around Rs 90,000- Rs 1 lakh. The manufacturer is likely to reveal the prices during the Auto Expo next month. Bookings for the bike will commence in April.

Prices for the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V start from Rs 92,509 and go up to Rs 1.08 lakhs (both prices ex-showroom, Mumbai).
