Ducati to introduce radar systems from 2020

- Part of Ducati’s 2025 Safety Road Map

- Multistrada might be the first product to feature this safety feature

- Cornering ABS to be standard across range

Ducati is working on front and rear radar systems for its motorcycles. The system will warn the rider of an impending risk from the traffic around the motorcycle and will be launched in 2020.

The radar system will be a part of Ducati’s Advanced Rider Assistance Systems (ARAS), which are essentially rider aids that aim to make motorcycling safer. The radar system will make use of sensors to identify vehicles in the motorcycle’s ‘blind spot’ and the traffic approaching from behind. It will then alert the rider about possible collisions. The radar will also manage the adaptive cruise control which will allow the rider to follow any vehicle at a safe distance. Considering that a touring motorcycle would benefit the most from such a feature, we expect the 2021 Multistrada to be the first model to get it.

Under the Safety Road Map 2025, Ducati has also announced that the Cornering ABS system will be offered as standard on its entire range. The feature makes use of an inertial measurement unit (IMU) to prevent the wheels from locking-up under braking (which can lead to a crash) even when the bike is leaned over. This is an add-on over the regular ABS which prevents the lock-up when the bike is upright. The feature is already offered on a slew of models in the Ducati range.
