TVS has unveiled the Apache RTR 200 race bike for its One Make categories of the 2018 Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship. The bike will be used by competitors in Novice, Ladies and Young Media classes, and boasts of a slew of mechanical upgrades.
This race bike is based on the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Race Edition 2.0 and sports the same styling. However, it is the mechanicals that make all the difference for a race bike. At the heart of the race bike is the same single-cylinder four-valve engine with an oil-cooler, although it has been upgraded to extract more performance. It gets high-lift cam shafts, retuned carburettor and intake and a free-flow exhaust system. The engine power output has gone up from 20bhp to 24bhp thanks to these upgrades. Like the stock Race Edition 2.0, the race bike also gets a slipper clutch for the five-speed gearbox. The suspension setup has also been tuned to make it more suitable for the race track, and it rides on sticky Pirelli tyres.
Needless to say, with these upgrades, the motorcycle is no longer street legal. The Apache RTR 200 race bike will be used in three categories of the Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship, which will be flagged off tomorrow at the Kari Speedway in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
