Less than a month after the Multistrada 1260 was launched in India, Ducati has now introduced the most performance-focussed variant of the bike. Christened as the Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak, this bike is named after the iconic hill climb race conducted in Colorado in the US.
Visually, the Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak gets a suave livery combining red, black and white. And while the other variants get tall windscreens, this one gets a sporty little carbon fibre fly-screen. Even the front fender and a few other components are constructed out of carbon fibre. Moreove, it also rides on lighter forged aluminium wheels. It also gets performance-oriented Ohlins front forks and TTX36 rear monoshock, both of which can be adjusted manually.
At the heart of the Multistrada 1260 Pike Peak is the same 1262cc L-twin DVT engine, churning out 156bhp and 96Nm of torque. This engine breathes out through a Termignoni exhaust system. The electronics package is identical to the standard bike, and consists of cornering ABS, eight-level wheelie control, eight-level traction control, vehicle hold control for uphill starts and cruise control.
Earlier this week, Ducati reclaimed its title at the 2018 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with the Multistrada. Under the command of Carlin Dunne, the specially built motorcycle recorded a time of 9 minutes, 59 seconds. The Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak commemorates this victory. Ducati has said that the Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak will available in limited numbers, although it stopped short of divulging the actual quantity. It competes against the BMW S 1000 XR.
