The interlude is finally over for Indian motorcyclists who have been waiting for the Indian FTR 1200 S since it was unveiled at Intermot 2018. Indian Motorcycle has officially launched the FTR 1200 S and the FTR 1200 S Race Replica flat-trackers in India, reportedly based on the championship-winning FTR 750 race bike. Interested customers can book the motorcycle of their choice by paying a booking amount of Rs 2 lakhs at any of the Indian dealerships across the country. On the price front, Indian Motorcycle has priced the FTR 1200 S at Rs 14.99 lakhs and the sportier FTR 1200 S Race Replica at Rs 15.49 lakhs (both ex-showroom).
The motorcycles are powered by a 1203cc liquid-cooled V-twin unit that has been designed for performance and is capable of producing 118bhp. Transmission duties are handled by a six-speed gearbox assisted by a slipper clutch. Being a flat-tracker, Indian says the FTR series motorcycles are fast, agile and thrilling to ride with a sporty yet upright riding stance. The motorcycles come equipped with Bosch stability control with six-axis inertia sensor, three riding modes, wheelie control and lean-sensitive stability program. All this can be controlled via the 4.3-inch Bluetooth-enabled colour touchscreen instrument console.
Deliveries of the FTR 1200 S and FTR 1200 S Race Replica are expected to begin from April 2019 onwards. On the competition front, the flat-tracker will compete against the likes of the BMW R NineT Scrambler, Ducati Scrambler 1100 and the soon to be launched Triumph Scrambler 1200.
