The Bajaj Avenger 220 is the latest bike to be updated with an ABS unit. It is now on par with its closest competition, the Suzuki Intruder 150 which offered ABS as standard from the time it was launched. How do the cruisers go up against each other? We find out in this on-paper comparison.
Design
In terms of segment, the Avenger 220 ABS and Suzuki Intruder are both cruisers. Now, Bajaj offers the Avenger in two variants; Street and Cruise. The Cruise is a more touring-focused motorcycle with its tall windscreen and sweptback-handlebars. It also sports loads of chrom components that make it look retro. However, the Avenger 220 Street is more relatable to the Intruder 150 thanks to its city-cruiser design language. The flat-handlebar makes for a more upright riding posture and the blacked-out components exude a dark custom-bike appeal.
The Intruder 150 looks up to its elder sibling, the Intruder M1800R for design inspiration. Its distinctive truiangular headlamp, long tank, and sweeping rear section look very similar to the bigger Intruder. The Intruder 150, like the Avenger 220 Street ABS offers blacked-out components for a modern cruiser look.
Engine
The Intruder 150 is powered by a 155cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces 14.6bhp and 14Nm of torque. It is mated to a five-speed gearbox. While the standard variant is a carburetted system, Suzuki also offer a fuel-injected variant at a higher cost. Meanwhile, the Avenger 220 ABS uses a 220cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, carburetted system that puts out 19bhp and 17.5Nm of torque. This unit is mated to a five-speed gearbox.
Cycle Parts
The Avenger 220 ABS's braking hardware consists of 260mm disc at the front and a 230mm rear disc along with a single-channel ABS unit. The Intruder 150 also gets a single-channel ABS along with which it uses a 266mm front disc and 220mm rear disc.
Suspension duties are handled by telescopic front forks on both bikes. Although at the rear, the Suzuki sports a monoshock while the Avenger gets twin-shocks. The Avenger 220 gets a fuel-tank capacity of 14-litres and a kerb weight of 150kg. Meanwhile, the Intruder is lighter at 148kgs but gets a smaller, 11-litre fuel tank.
Pricing
Bajaj has priced both the variants of the Avenger 220 ABS at Rs 1.02 lakhs. The Suzuki Intruder 150 also has a similar price tag of Rs 1.02 lakhs. The fuel-injected version of the bike is priced at Rs 1.08 lakhs;a premium of Rs 6,900 from the standard variant. (All prices ex-showroom).
