BMW Motorrad India teases 2019 S1000RR; to be launched soon

BMW Motorrad India has teased the 2019 S 1000 RR in an image, hinting at its upcoming launch in the country.

The 2019 S 1000 RR was unveiled globally at the EICMA show in Milan last year. The most obvious change to the motorcycle is its design. Moving away from the sharp asymmetrical fascia, the 2019 S 1000 RR sports a more aerodynamic unit with twin LED projector headlamps. And with a wheelbase of 1,441mm and width of 848mm, the bike is longer and wider than the outgoing model. However, BMW has reduced the seat height to 824mm; 2mm lower than the previous-gen bike. 

The S 1000 RR is powered by a retuned 999cc, inline-four motor that pumps out 204bhp at 13,500rpm and 113Nm of torque at 11,000rpm. The motor comes mated to a six-speed gearbox with a two-way quickshifter as standard. It is equipped with the brand’s ShiftCam technology that adjusts valve strokes and timings on the intake side. The suspension has also been refined and gets electronic damping. 

BMW has managed to reduce the weight of the motorcycle by 11kgs with the engine and exhaust contributing to the major chunk of reduction. While the new engine is 4kg lighter, the exhaust system weighs 1.3kg less. The manufacturer has packed the 2019 S 1000 RR’s electronics with a six-axis IMU, wheelie control, traction control, adjustable engine braking system, quickshifter, launch control and ABS. 

With all these cosmetic, electronic and mechanical upgrades, we expect the 2019 S1000RR to cost a premium over the outgoing model which retails at Rs 17.90 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). It will compete against the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R, Yamaha YZF-R1, Suzuki GSX-R1000 and Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade.
