Harley-Davidson design patents with saree guard show India focus

- Patents include the Streetfighter, Pan America 1250 and Custom 1250

- Designs of the Streetfighter and Pan America sport saree guards

- These bikes will be based on the company’s new modular platform

Harley-Davidson has filed patents for three new bikes which look like the production versions of previously unveiled concept models. As apparent from the filed sketches with the European Union Intellectual Property Office, these bikes include the Streetfighter, Custom 1250 and Pan America 1250. Surprisingly, the Streetfighter and Pan America 1250 sport a saree guard which signifies that the company is focusing on the Indian market for the introduction of these bikes.

The Streetfighter, as the name suggests, is a muscular naked bike while the Pan America 1250 is an adventure tourer. These type of motorcycles will be a huge departure from the American bikemaker’s current line-up of cruisers and bobbers. Meanwhile, the Custom 1250 is a cruiser with design similar to Harley’s new Fat Bob. All the three products will be based on the company’s new middle-weight modular platform which will be employed in motorcycles ranging from 500cc to 1250cc.

The patents confirm only the finalised design of the three motorcycles as various other parts have been represented by dotted lines. As for the debut of the production versions of these bikes, the adventure-tourer Pan America 1250 and the Streetfighter are expected to be unveiled by 2020. Meanwhile, the Custom 1250 might take another year before finally making an appearance.
