Yamaha India teases MT-15; bike reaches dealerships

Yamaha has teased their highly anticipated motorcycle, the MT-15, on social media channels. This is the first time the company has talked officially about the upcoming bike. 

The MT-15, which will be launched in India on 15 March, will be different from the South East Asian models. It’s clear from the teaser video that the Indian variant won’t get upside-down front forks. It will rather be equipped with the traditional forks to keep costs in check. The teaser video revealed one additional feature that was missing from the test mules and the bikes that were spotted previously – bright rim tape. This small addition will definitely enhance the overall appeal of the bike. 

The MT-15 makes 19bhp at 10,000rpm, which is the same as the YZF-R15. The torque figure stands at 14.7Nm at 8500rpm. This 155cc motor will be mated to a six-speed gearbox. However, expect the MT-15 to get revised gear ratios. Also, just like in the YZF-R15, the MT-15 is likely to get dual-channel ABS. The gross vehicle weight (GVW) of the MT-15 is 288kg. It also gets a longer wheelbase of 1335mm, and is also wider than the R15 at 800mm. The length and height of the MT-15 stand at 2020mm and 1070mm respectively.

The MT-15 will be positioned between the newly launched FZ V3.0 and the YZF-R15. It will compete against the KTM 125 Duke in the Indian market.
