- Gets upside down forks and a radial brake caliper up front

Bajaj Auto has launched the 2019 edition of its flagship motorcycle, Dominar 400, in India. The sports tourer has been priced at Rs 1.73 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) which is a hike of Rs 10,795 over the previous generation.

For that additional amount, the 2019 Dominar 400 comes with several improvements besides the addition of new features and mechanical upgrades over its predecessor. In terms of looks, the motorcycle continues to follow the same design but has undergone subtle design changes. Up front, the headlamp assembly is now visually smaller with a coloured focal point for a more aggressive look. The instrument console has been updated to display additional information which now includes average fuel consumption, current fuel economy and distance to service. In addition to that, the secondary display situated on the fuel tank features an LED unit displaying the time, gear position and the trip info. Furthermore, Bajaj has tweaked the motorcycle design by adding a tank pad, embossed ‘D’ on the pillion seat, cast aluminium stocks for the side mirrors, forged side stand and updated signatures for the LED taillamp. Besides that, the 2019 Dominar 400 now sports a twin-barrel exhaust offering a throaty exhaust note. Lastly, to make the motorcycle a more capable tourer, Bajaj has equipped the pillion seat with bungee straps that can be used to strap luggage or gear during long distance trips.

Moving on the mechanical aspects, the 2019 Dominar 400 continues to be powered by the same motor but has been revised. It now displaces 373.3cc and has been upgraded with a DOHC configuration. Transmission duties are handled by a six-speed gearbox. With these upgrades, the sports tourer now produces 39.4bhp at 8650rpm which is a gain of 4.9bhp over the previous model. Torque output remains the same at 35Nm but is available 500rpm earlier at 7500rpm. With these figures, the 2019 Dominar 400 can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 7.1 seconds and achieve a top speed of 156kmph, claims the company.

For the cycle parts, the motorcycle now comes with 43mm inverted forks up front, thus upping the handling attributes while also giving it a more aggressive look. The rear continues to be a multi-step adjustable monoshock. Braking is done a 320mm single disc, but with a radial caliper, for the front, thus offering better performance. The rear comes with a 230mm disc with a single-pot caliper. Dual-channel ABS is now standard on the motorcycle.

Bajaj is offering the 2019 Dominar 400 with two colour options, Aurora Green and Vine Black. The motorcycle is now available across all authorised Bajaj Auto dealerships.
