- TVS outperformed Honda by a margin of 25,385 units
- Honda recorded a 46.7 per cent drop in its Y-o-Y sales
- Hero Motocorp and Royal Enfield have also registered a dip in sales
TVS has replaced Honda to become the second highest-selling two-wheeler company in the month of March 2019.
While Honda sold 2,22,325 two-wheelers last month, TVS outperformed it by selling 2,47,710 units which is a margin of 25,385 units. Meanwhile, taking into consideration the individual year-on-year growth of the brands, both the manufacturers witnessed a decline in their sales last month. TVS had dispatched 2,65,166 units in March 2018 which is a dip of 6.6 per cent. On the other hand, Honda witnessed a huge drop in its sales as it had sold 4,17,380 units in March 2018 which is a considerable slump of 46.7 per cent this year.
Honda has been facing a drop in sales for some of its highest selling models. For instance, the Honda Activa, the company’s best running model, registered a drop of 17 per cent in its sales in February this year as compared to the corresponding month last year. Likewise, the Honda Grazia also recorded a decline of 65 per cent in its sales in February. On the contrary, Grazia’s rival from TVS, the Ntorq 125, saw a year-on-year rise of 97 per cent in its sales in the same month.
Apart from TVS and Honda, a few other two-wheeler companies such as Hero Motocorp and Royal Enfield have also faced a downturn in sales in March and have been bearing it for a few months. This can be attributed to the implementation of new safety norms and insurance regulations which have increased the prices of the two-wheelers.
