BMW to launch new cruiser bike in 2020

- Confirmed by a company official

BMW has been hinting at a new cruiser with a boxer-twin engine ever since it unveiled the ‘Departed’ – its custom model created by the Japanese firm Custom Works Zon. While the Departed was already a unique flat tracker-styled bike, the German bikemaker has now revealed yet another quirky concept christened as ‘The Revival Birdcage’. It has been developed by an American customising firm, Revival Cycles. Showcasing this concept at the Handbuilt Show in Texas, a BMW official has confirmed that they will be introducing a new cruiser motorcycle with a boxer-twin engine in 2020.

As can be seen in the pictures, the Revival Birdcage carries a bare-bone styling incorporating only the suspension, chassis, seat, handlebar and the humungous powerplant. The protruding cylinder heads of this motor are reminiscent of the 1170cc mill of the BMW R nine T series models. However, the company is expected to have developed an all-new boxer-twin, air/oil-cooled engine for its upcoming cruiser, perhaps with a displacement of 1800cc. 

BMW is expected to unveil this cruiser in its concept form by the end of this year. Considering the 1800cc engine it is likely to be powered by, the motorcycle will go up against the touring models from Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycles.
