Just two days ago, we saw the first ever pictures of BMW’s upcoming small adventure based on the G310R. While the official name isn’t out yet, rumours suggest that this adventure bike will be called the G310GS. Since the time these images were leaked on the internet, a lot of motorcycle enthusiasts, especially from India have been talking about this adventure bike. But most of them aren’t sure if this bike will be launched in India or not. We believe that the new BMW G310GS will be launched in India and we tell you why.
Made in India
This BMW will be made in India, thanks to their alliance with TVS. As per their deal, all the smaller capacity new motorcycles will be manufactured at TVS’ Hosur plant and exported worldwide. So it’s easy for the German manufacturer to get the new G310GS to their India showrooms. They’ve the product ready and all they’ve to do is transport it to the showroom. Indian manufacturing means easily availability of spares, which is important for long term sustainability of the product.
BMW Motorrad India’s aggressive plan
BMW Motorrad is clear about its India plans. They want to go aggressive with their product launches in the Indian market beginning early next year. At the time of launch, BMW will have all of their big bikes inside the showroom, but as a completely built-up (CBU) units, except for the G310R, which is being mnufactured here.
Lack of products
There’s hardly any product in the affordable adventure segment. The only one we’ve right now is the Royal Enfield Himalayan. So lack of competitions mean more opportunities, which directly leads to more sales and revenue. While there have been other manufacturers like KTM who have shown interest in this segment, but for now, they’ve kept their discussion behind closed doors.
Practicality
Our country is known to have some bad roads. So something like an adventure bike always makes sense. And we don’t just have bad roads, we’re also known to have one of the most scenic locations in the world and exploring it on an adventure bike is the perfect way. Right now, the big adventure bikes like the Tiger 800s and the Versys 650 are out of reach of most of the adventure enthusiasts. Something like the BMW G310GS with a price tag of close to Rs 2.2 lakh makes it a very tempting proposition.
