Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC officially unveiled in India; prices to be announced on 28 May

Triumph Motorcycle India has officially revealed the higher-spec Scrambler 1200 in India. The motorcycle belongs to the company’s Bonneville family and offers a combination of classic styling along with modern technology and equipment. In the company’s portfolio, the Scrambler 1200 sits above the Street Scrambler that is already on sale in the country. The Scrambler 1200 is already on sale in the international market and is offered in two variants – XC and the higher-spec XE model. However, for the Indian market, the motorcycle will be available only in the standard XC trim.

Designed to do proper off-roading, the Scrambler 1200 comes packed to the brim with a lot of electronic gadgetry. It features a new TFT instrument console featuring two design themes, but mainly it gets Google’s turn-by-turn navigation assist and GoPro integration to capture images and video without taking the hand off the bar. Besides that, the motorcycle comes with keyless ignition, ride-by-wire, cruise control, USB charging socket and a torque-assisted clutch. If you thought that was enough, there’s even more tech on offer. In the electronics department, the bike features an IMU, suggesting cornering ABS, traction control and five riding modes – road, rain, sport, off-road and rider custom.

Powering the Scrambler 1200 is a re-tuned version of the Thruxton’s 1200cc mill. The motor is tuned to deliver a maximum power output of 88bhp and a peak torque figure of 110Nm. Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox. In terms of cycle parts, the Scrambler 1200 rides on 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheels shod with Metzeler Tourance dual-purpose tyres. The bike is suspended by inverted Showa forks up front and twin shocks at the rear. For braking, the motorcycle employs 320mm twin discs with Brembo calipers for the front and a 255mm single disc with Nissin caliper at the rear.

In terms of competition, the Scrambler 1200 will rival directly against the Ducati Scrambler 1100 in India.
