Benelli has launched the Leoncino 500 in India with a price tag of Rs 4.79 lakhs (ex-showroom). The company will bring the motorcycle to the country via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route.
The Leoncino 500 sports a design language that has been inspired by old-school scrambler motorcycle. It gets a round headlamp with LED DRLs and a round LCD instrument cluster that adds to its appeal. Furthermore, the Leoncino gets a sculpted, 12.7-litre fuel tank that flows neatly into the slightly upswept tail section which also houses an LED tail lamp and turn indicators. Moreover, Benelli has equipped the Leoncino 500 with a tyre hugger that has the number plate holder.
Under the Leoncino’s steel trellis frame is a 499cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine similar to the TRK 502. This motor churns out 47bhp of power at 8500rpm and 45Nm of torque at 4500rpm and comes mated to a six-speed gearbox. The Leoncino 500 rides on 17-inch wheels that are shod with Pirelli rubber. Suspension duties are done by beefy, 50mm forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. Meanwhile, 320mm discs upfront and a single 260mm disc at the rear along with an ABS comprise of the motorcycle’s braking hardware.
Benelli is offering the Leoncino 500 in two colour options of 'Leoncino red' and 'Steel Grey' which match well with the motorcycle’s blacked-out components. On the other hand, bookings for the Leoncino 500 have commenced in all dealerships with deliveries to take place in the next couple of weeks. As for competition, the Benelli Leoncino 500 doesn’t have a direct rival, but in terms of price, it goes up against the Kawasaki Z650.
