Bajaj and KTM have ben been working together for many years now. This partnership will go a step further in the world of electric vehicles.
Both the companies are working on a host of projects including electric. In fact, Bajaj will introduce its first electric scooter in the next few months. But interestingly, one of the top honchos recently announced the company’s intention of co-developing a high-end electric motorcycle.
“At this stage I can say that we are entering two-wheelers. We are not ready to say whether it’s a scooter or a motorcycle but we are open to the full spectrum and we are working very closely with our strategic partner KTM to look at electric solution for high-end motorcycle also,” said Rakesh Sharma, executive director, Bajaj.
From the above statement, it’s clear that Bajaj has taken help from KTM for this project. As of now, Dominar is the most expensive and powerful motorcycle from Bajaj. And when the company says is looking for an electric solution for a high-end motorcycle, it makes us believe that Dominar could go electric. But there’s also a high chance of the company developing an all new electric platform for this upcoming project, and maybe apply some engineering and segment learnings from the Dominar.
Bajaj is taking the top down launch approach for it e-scooter plans. The idea is to launch the most expensive product in the segment which will help the company gain the required attention. Post that, it will launch cheaper products. We believe the Pune-based manufacturer will use the same launch approach for its high-end electric bike. Establish a brand first, follow it with more affordable variants.
