- 2020 R3 gets new colours
- Only aesthetic updates
- No changes on the engine
Yamaha has unveiled the 2020 edition of the YZF-R3 – an entry-level multi-cylinder motorcycle. For 2020, the brand has only played with the aesthetics of the motorcycles, and mechanically, it continues to be the same.
The bike now gets two new paint schemes – icon blue and midnight black. Rest of the motorcycle continues to be the same. The R3 gets its power from a 321cc parallel-twin cylinder engine which develops 41bhp at 10,750rpm and a peak torque of 29.6Nm at 9,000rpm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission.
Yamaha India used to sell the R3 in India till a few years ago, but it was discontinued due to poor sales. However, the company has a habit of re-launching motorcycles post some major policy changes, and we believe the new R3 will be launched in India next year, once the BS-6 emission norms kick in.
The R3 was assembled in India, but it failed the hit the right price. But we expect Yamaha India has learnt its lesson, and for the 2020 model, we’ll get to see a good pricing.
