Next-generation KTM RC 390 spotted testing once again

- Next-generation KTM RC 390 gets a major design makeover

- Will offer a more comfortable riding stance and a roomy pillion seat

- Likely to be unveiled at this year’s EICMA show in November

The R&D team of KTM seems to be working overtime lately as a number of upcoming models from the Austrian bikemaker are being spied. After the next-generation 390 Duke was spied in April, its fully-faired sibling, the RC 390, has now been spotted testing in Austria, sporting major changes.

The motorcycle was previously spied in December last year, but the changes weren’t clearly visible as the test mule was disguised. However, the recent spy shots give us a clearer view of the motorcycle revealing a plethora of details.

Starting with the design, the upcoming RC 390 gets an entirely new set of clothes. The sharp nose fairing has been replaced by a more rounded front panel which integrates a compact headlamp assembly. The dual projector headlamps have been replaced by a single bulb while the sleeker tail section also houses a redesigned tail lamp. The motorcycle now gets a larger fairing with huge air vents and a few creases. Apparently, KTM has transformed the new RC 390 into a more comfortable sportsbike which is signified by the slightly pulled back handlebar and a wider pillion seat. Furthermore, the fuel tank also seems to be larger than the current 10-litre unit which will deliver a longer range.

Yet another major change is in terms of hardware as the test mule features a redesigned sub-frame which looks similar to the 390 Duke’s unit. This aids in accommodating comfier seats for the rider and pillion. Coming to the engine, it will continue to be powered by the same 373.3cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor. However, the cylinder head and exhaust unit will be tweaked for making it compliant with the upcoming emission norms.

The production version of the 2020 KTM RC 390 is expected to be unveiled at the EICMA show in November while the official launch might take place sometime next year. The motorcycle will be manufactured in India for local as well as international markets.
