- Yamaha YZF-R15 V3 BS-VI engine details leaked in a document
- Power output has seen a minor drop of 0.7bhp
- Expect the updated R15 to get refreshed decals and new features
With the deadline of the new emissions norms fast approaching, Yamaha is actively working on making its products BS-VI compliant. After the bike maker was recently spied testing the updated Fascino, newly leaked documents reveal the engine details of the BS-VI-compliant YZF-R15 V3.
As observed with most two-wheelers, the R15 V3 has also witnessed a slight drop in its power following the changes required to achieve cleaner emissions. The motorcycle is powered by a 155cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected motor which currently churns out 19bhp and 14.7Nm. While the displacement remains unchanged, the leaked document reveals 18.3bhp of power output which is a drop of 0.7bhp.
The YZF R15 V3 is currently the most powerful motorcycle in the 150-160cc segment. As the aforementioned power drop is negligible, the performance of the motorcycle will be only marginally affected. A similar change will be observed on the R15’s naked sibling, the MT-15, which runs the same motor. Besides the alteration to the powerplant, expect Yamaha to introduce refreshed decals as well. Furthermore, with manufacturers introducing Bluetooth-enabled instrument clusters in their two-wheelers, expect Yamaha to join the bandwagon and bring a similar console on the R15.
Yamaha had announced in August that it will start introducing its BS-VI-complaint motorcycles from November. Going by that, expect the updated R15 to see the light of the day soon. The company had also affirmed that following the BS-VI-bound alterations, its two-wheelers will see a price hike up to 15 per cent. That hints towards a price of around Rs 1.50 lakhs for the new R15 which currently retails at Rs 1.36 lakhs (ex-showroom).
