- Bajaj Urbanite Chetak electric scooter unveiled
- Features 12-inch alloy wheels, all-LED lighting and fully-digital instrument console
- Will be offered in six colour options
After a long hiatus, Bajaj Auto has marked its re-entry in the two-wheeler scooter market with the unveil of the Urbanite branded electric scooter, Chetak. It is an all-new product design from the ground up featuring an electric powertrain and a host of new features. Once launched, Bajaj will be introducing the new e-scooter in the country in a phased manner.
Although the Urbanite Chetak electric is an all-new product, it follows a modern retro styling with design cues taken from the iconic Chetak scooter that brought Bajaj into the limelight back then. The e-scooter's form uses sheet metal body panels offering smooth flowing lines accentuated by brushed chrome highlights around the circular LED headlamp and LED DRL. It also get sequential scrolling LED blinkers. It features a fully-digital Bluetooth-enabled instrument console that looks fresh and comes with a host of features. The scooter features a well-contoured single-piece seat that should offer a comfortable ride to both the rider and the pillion.
The Urbanite Chetak is powered by an electric motor that draws its power from a IP67 rated lithium-ion battery. It will feature two drive modes (Eco, Sport), a reverse assist mode, regenerative braking and an on-board Intelligent Battery Management System (IBMS) to control charge and discharge seamlessly. On a full charge, the e-scooter will return a range on 95km in Eco mode and 85km in Sport mode. Furthermore, an elegant home-charging station will also be offered at a nominal cost.
Coming to the cycle parts, the Chetak electric is suspended by a single-arm unit at the front and a monoshock at the rear, similar to the Chetak. For braking, the e-scooter employs a disc-drum setup.
Bajaj will be offering the Urbanite Chetak with the choice of six colour options. On the competition front, once introduced into the market in January, the Bajaj Urbanite Chetak electric will rival the Ather 450 in the premium electric scooter market space.
