Bajaj has unveiled its first electric scooter, the Urbanite Chetak in India. The manufacturer had begun production back in September but will commence sales only in January 2020. When launched, it will directly take on the Ather 450 in the country. While full information of the Urbanite Chetak is yet to be revealed, here are all the details we know so far.
Modern-retro styling
Bajaj has not only hit the right nostalgic note by christening the scooter after the legendary Chetak but has also given it a design reminiscent of the latter. The Urbanite Chetak sports a round headlamp, vertically-stacked faux air-vents and curved side panels along with chrome touches that give it a retro appeal.
Full-LED lighting
The Urbanite Chetak’s round headlamp is fitted with LED lighting and an LED DRL. Moreover, the split tail lamps, as well as turn indicators, are LED units which have sequential blinking similar to that seen on high-end luxury cars.
Feature-packed instrument console
Analogue-digital instrument clusters will soon make way for fully-digital displays and the Urbanite Chetak is the most recent product to join the bandwagon. The circular display is Bluetooth enabled which allows the rider to connect to scooter via the dedicated app. It will also display calls and notification and is likely to get turn-by-turn navigation as well. Along with this information, the instrument console will display battery range, speed, service-due indicator and clock.
Colour options
Bajaj will be offering an array of colour options for the Chetak electric scooter. These will include- blue, red, white, silver, beige and black paint schemes.
Electric powertrain
While Bajaj hasn’t revealed full details of the Urbanite Chetak’s motor, we do know that it will draw power from an IP67 lithium-ion battery. Furthermore, it gets regenerative braking and Intelligent Braking Management System (IBMS) that controls charge and discharge of the battery. The scooter offers two modes- Eco and Sport which offer a range of 95kms and 85kms respectively. Bajaj has also announced that it will be providing a nominally-priced home charging station for the Urbanite Chetak.
Cycle Parts
The Bajaj Urbanite Chetak rides on 12-inch wheels at both ends shod with 90/90 section MRF Zapper-K tyres. It is suspended from a single-sided shock up front and a monoshock at the rear. Meanwhile, braking is done by employs a disc brake at the front and drum brake at the rear.
