Production-ready Aprilia RS660 spotted on test

- Aprilia RS660 spied testing at a race track

- Gets 660cc, V-Twin motor

- Could arrive in India sometime next year

The Aprilia RS660 has been spotted testing, in what looks like a production-ready form. The motorcycle is expected to debut at the upcoming 2019 EICMA in Italy.

A few months ago, patent images of the RS660 were leaked giving us an idea of what the bike would look like. And the spy images reveal that it looks almost similar in the flesh. To begin with, it gets aggressive-looking full-LED headlamps and mirror-mounted indicators. The sleek full fairing exposes a little of the frame and lower end of the engine as well. A closer look reveals that the production version of the RS660 is likely to get slightly raised handlebar instead of the aggressive unit on the concept shown at the 2018 EICMA.

Now the rear section is where things are different as compared to the patent images. The bike in the patent sported a single-seat with a sharp tail section similar to the RSV4. However, the test mule sports a svelte tail with a pillion seat shaped like the one on the Tuono V4 1100. Nevertheless, we believe that Aprilia will showcase the RS660 in two variants wherein the higher-spec version will sport Ohlins suspension while the standard version could use suspension hardware sourced from Sachs. Meanwhile, the two variants could employ different Brembo calipers.

The Aprilia RS660 is to be powered by a 660cc, V-twin derived from the RSV4 1100’s V4 engine although engine details are yet to be revealed. As for electronics, the bike is likely to get a suite of riding modes, a traction control system, and ride-by-wire throttle to name a few.

While Aprilia will globally unveil the RS660 at the EICMA, we can expect the company to bring the bike to India sometime next year. This will ensure that Aprilia has a player in the middleweight segment in the country which has the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R and is likely to also include the Triumph Daytona 765 in the near future.
