- Slight drop in max power while peak torque has gone up

Yamaha Motor India has commenced the sale of the updated versions of the FZ V3 and FZ S V3 that are now BS-VI compliant. The standard FZ V3 has been priced at Rs 99,200, while the premium FZ S V3 is available at a starting price of Rs 1,01,200. The company has also introduced two new colour schemes for the FZ S model named Darknight and Metallic Red. While the latter is available at the same priced tag as the normal FZ S, the Darknight version demands a slightly higher price tag of Rs 1,02,700.

The FZ V3 and FZ S V3 are the first products in Yamaha’s product portfolio to receive the BS-VI update. On the cosmetic front, beside the new colour shade additions for the FZ S, both motorcycles remain the same. As for the motor, it continues to be the same 149cc single-cylinder air-cooled unit with fuel-injection which is now BS-VI compliant. The addition of larger catalytic converter and other components to meet the more stringent norms have resulted in a slight change in the power figures. While the BS-IV versions registered 13bhp at 8,000rpm and 12.8Nm at 6,000rpm, the BS-VI versions now churn out 12.2bhp at 7,250rpm and 13.6Nm at 5,500rpm. Comparing the two, the max power available at the corresponding rpm has witnessed a marginal drop. Whereas, peak torque has gone up a bit and is available 500rpms earlier. Transmission duties continue to be handled by a five-speed gearbox.

Both, FZ V3 and FZ S V3 share the same cycle parts, telescopic forks up front and monoshock at the rear. Braking is done by disc brakes at both ends and is fortified by single-channel ABS.

In the coming time, Yamaha will be announcing the launch of BS-VI compliant versions of other models sold in India.
